Joshua Tree
A few weeks ago I went to visit my buddy Rob out in San Diego. We were headed to Festival 8, the big Phish-fest in Indio, to meet up with more friends and hear some good music. The night before the festival though we decided to head out to Joshua Tree National Park as there was nearly a full moon out and we wanted to shoot some pictures. We rolled into the park after 10:30pm, found a spot along the road, turned on some music, cracked a few oat sodas and set about to work. I would love to get back there to explore the park some more but this was a pretty good taste… Basically they are just long exposures and a little light added with a strobe or painted with a small LED headlamp.

Rob’s mighty Volvo wagon. That’s Rob on the right, by the tree.
Working With What You’ve Got
My friend John Tully works for the Midland Daily News in Michigan. Recently a soldier from his coverage area was killed and he covered the story of Staff Sgt Timothy David’s return home. He was able to photograph the return of the remains to Michigan at the airport but not the actual funeral. However, I think Tully did a good job of shooting around the edges of the story and gave a good impression of what the loss of Staff Sgt David meant to the community.
Check out his blog for not only his coverage of this story but for all the great work he is doing.

Long Time Gone
I’ve been remiss when it comes to updating this thing. maybe I’m still in mourning over the loss of It Beats Working For a Living. More likely though is that I have been lazy when it comes to the blog. I was busy with the VNPA last weekend and went full-bore upon returning to FredVegas. I’ll start off with a little video by my boss (though i prefer to call him my friend) Dave. He shot it on his D90 and put it together in Final Cut Pro. I should clarify that he shot stills though the D90′s video function is kind of fun to play around with.
