Gold star spouse Taylor Strong gets a surprise hug from her daughter Sophie after speaking at a Memorial Day observance in Fredericksburg, VA. Strong’s husband, Marine Sgt. Charles Strong, was killed in Afghanistan in 2014 and never got to meet his daughter.
Not the picture I expected when I went to cover the annual luminaria at Fredericksburg National Cemetery. A lightning storm rolled in pretty fast dumping rain and blowing bags over. Sadly park rangers said we had to leave before the lighting got really good.
